Several Gwinnett boys and girls basketball players were among those honored by Region 8-AAAAAAA’s coaches on the All-Region team released Monday.
Among the girls, Autumn Newby was one of 12 Gwinnett players, and four from Archer, to be honored by being named the Region’s Player of the Year.
The 6-foot-2 Vanderbilt signee is averaging approximately 13 points, 13 rebounds and four assists per game for the regular-season champion Tigers.
Archer teammates Linsey Marchese and Asia McCoy were named to the first team, along with South Gwinnett’s Alexis Lewis and Shiloh’s Sharai Lay. Grayson’s Jazmine Robinson and Bianca Fizouaty and South’s Xian Lopez were named to the second team, while Archer’s Tia Shorter, Shiloh’s Ronje Williams, Grayson’s Lele Torrence and South’s Jasmine Williams were all honorable mention selections.
Heading up the Gwinnett boys honorees was the Shiloh duo of T.J. Massenburg and Greg James, plus Grayson’s Travis Anderson, who were all named to the first-team.
Grayson’s Kenyon Jackson, Archer’s Brendan Tucker, South’s D’onte Torrence and Shiloh’s Brian Coffey were second-team selections, while Shiloh’s Shamarie McLeod, Grayson’s Nick Edwards, South’s Brycen Lee and Archer’s Brandon Johnson were all honorable mentions.
